'Phytopoet' to Narrate New Videos on Integrated Pest Management

AMES, Iowa – A new creative face has joined the Integrated Pest Management program with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Sebastian Eugene Bartholomew is a fictional but believable phytopoet who muses on mold, ponders plants and bellows bug ballads. He is at the epicenter of the Phytopoetry Project, which has made its debut on the IPM YouTube channel.

The Soybean Cyst Nematode Coalition’s public relations campaign to move more soybean farmers to actively manage the soybean cyst nematode (SCN) was the recipient of the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) prestigious Silver Anvil Award in the “Issues Management” category. For more than 75 years, the Silver Anvil has been considered an icon of the communications profession. The award ceremony, held in New York City’s Edison Ballroom on May 19, 2022, recognized and honored the best communications and public relations campaigns from around the country.

Hayslett Receives P&S Outstanding New Professional Award

Maya Hayslett, crop science youth education specialist in plant pathology and microbiology, is the recipient of the Professional and Scientific Outstanding New Professional Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University.

SoyFest

The Iowa Soybean Research Center hosted its inaugural SoyFest on August 25, 2021. This fun and educational event was held on ISU’s central campus to coincide with August as "Soybean Month" in Iowa and the start of fall semester.

Meals from the Heartland

In a kick-off event to SoyFest, the ISRC hosted Meals from the Heartland. ISU students, faculty and staff packaged 20,000 meals in which the main ingredient was soy protein.

As a kickoff event for SoyFest, a Meals from the Heartland packaging event will be held August 24th from 2:30-4:30 at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center. Volunteers will be packaging 20,000 meals, which will be sent to those in need. If you would like to volunteer for a shift, please contact Jill Cornelis.

The ISRC will be hosting its first ever SoyFest on Wednesday, August 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on central campus near Parks Library. The event will highlight the importance of soy, its many uses and emerging soy products. Come enjoy a free cookout, soy-related snacks, cooking and robotic demonstrations, giveaways, carnival games, a photo booth, and much more! More information
