Dr Myeong-hyeon Nam is visiting the Gleason lab from November 2006 through October 2007. A plant pathologist at the Nonsan Strawberry Experiment Station, near Chugnam, Korea, Dr. Nam has extensive research experience with the anthracnose disease complex on strawberries. His primary goal at ISU is a collaboration with Oscar Perez-Hernandez on developing a sensitive assay to detect Colletotrichum acutatum on symptomless strawberry leaves. They have developed a nested PCR assay for C. acutatum that shows promise for adaptation to field sampling procedures that could warn growers whether the pathogen is present in their fields before fruit are ripening.
