I am currently researching new methods of integrated management for control of disease, insect, and weed pests in apple orchards. Some of the techniques I am utilizing include organic composted mulch, weather-based warning systems for disease and insect emergence, and disease resistant apple cultivars. The goal of this research is to provide apple growers with reliable pest control while offering economic and environmental benefits. In the future, I would like to assist farmers in transitioning from conventional pest management systems to environmentally sound, yet economically viable methods of pest control and work with alternative crop (apples, strawberries, etc.) growers in Iowa. I enjoy camping, bouldering, kayaking down the Skunk River, organic gardening, and making wine. I am originally from Gilbert, Iowa.
