The DNA Sequencing and Synthesis Facility is housed in the Molecular Biology
Building and is managed by Dr. Gary Polking. This facility provides the
synthesis of high-quality DNA primers and the fast and reliable sequencing of a
variety of DNA templates. As a particularly helpful feature, this facility
independently sequences large DNA regions by "primer walking". The facility is
equipped with, among other apparati, three 48-well Applied Biosystems 377 and a
3700 capillary automated DNA sequencers. Sequencing results are returned as
electronic files and four-color printouts, which allows fast and easy editing
and assessing of data with available software packages.
