Iowa State University The Rust Report
Update - 6.30.11

Update from the south: Much of the southern states are still experiencing very dry conditions. A few states reported some recent rain, but not enough to improve conditions for rust development. Consequently, very little soybean rust has been reported – one new county in Florida and one additional report in Puerto Rico.

Risk for Iowa: The risk for soybean rust reaching Iowa remains extremely low for 2011. Lack of inoculum in the South and unfavorable conditions in these southern states will delay or eliminate the build of soybean rust where it needs to build up before moving north.

Diseases in Iowa: We have seen several seedling diseases including Pythium, Phytophthora and Rhizoctonia this spring. We also have seen fields with high levels of bacterial blight and brown spot, which is typical.
