Iowa State University The Rust Report
Update - 7.15.09

Update from the south: Outside of a few recent reports in Florida, there have been no new reports over the past few weeks. That is REALLY good news. Weather in parts of the South continues to be hot and is considerably drier than this spring, which has markedly slowed movement of rust.

Sentinel plots: We have started monitoring 13 fields across Iowa for early detection of soybean rust. To date, we have only seen brown spot. I have heard reports of frogeye leaf spot and downy mildew at very low levels in producer fields.

Modeling predictions: The predicted spore movement is still limited to southeastern states so the risk of rust getting to Iowa during the next month is low.
