Update from the South: Mississippi and Georgia are hot and dry, with no rust. Soybean rust was detected on kudzu in an abandoned urban lot in Mobile County in the southwest corner of Alabama on June 6th.
Update from the South: Soybean rust was found on a kudzu sample collected in late May in southern Louisiana. This is the first observation of soybean rust in Louisiana this year. The sample was collected in a very shady roadside growth of kudzu. The incidence was low but the severity on the leaves observed was approximately 50%.

Sentinel plots in Iowa: We will be establishing 20 sentinel plots across Iowa this season. These locations have been set, for the most part.

Update from the South: No new reports from this last week. Although the ipmPIPE web page map has a positive find in Mexico, these locations should be "hatched" because rust can no longer be found in Mexico. Like last week, soybean rust can currently be found on kudzu in six counties in Florida and one county in Texas.

Update from the South: Soybean rust was found on the new growth of kudzu at a kudzu sentinel site in Polk County in eastern Texas. The disease was first detected at this site in January, but was no longer found in late March. This is close to where soybean rust was first found in Texas in 2007.

Overwintering update: A little more detail on the overwintering sites in the south soybean rust has survived in Mexico. The jicama crop was infected again this year, but has since been harvested so this is not a source of inoculum. However, soybean rust continues to be found on volunteer soybean in corn.
