Tylka Nematology Lab

Welcome

Virtually all of the work in the Tylka laboratory is focused on the soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines. Through this site we hope to provide you with general information about SCN as well as specific information about our lab and our research.

Many of the items on this site require Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download it here.

In addition to SCN research, considerable effort in the Tylka lab is spent developing educational materials and implementing educational programs that explain the biology, proper identification, and management of the soybean cyst nematode for growers and agribusiness personnel. These educational materials and programs are developed and distributed in partnership with ISU Extension field staff, public agencies, private seed and chemical companies, and commodity organizations.

The research and education efforts conducted in the Tylka Nematology Lab are supported, in part, by soybean checkoff funds administered through the Iowa Soybean Promotion Board, the Soybean Research and Development Council, the North Central Soybean Research Program, and the United Soybean Board.

The 2011 Iowa State University SCN-resistant variety trials are completed and posted here. These are the only SCN trials available with SCN reproductive data collected on a plot-by-plot basis to give a complete picture of not only this year's yield, but an indication of how planting a particular variety can impact future years of soybean production.
